Recent Events and Community Life at Bay Creek in June 2026

Whether paddling the quiet waters of Old Plantation Creek, competing on the greens, or decorating a golf cart for the Fourth of July parade, residents found the month generous with ways to spend time together.

Outdoor Activities and Nature Experiences

Ranger Stan anchored much of June’s outdoor programming. The guided Kayak Experience went out four times, taking beginners and experienced paddlers alike through the quiet waters of Old Plantation Creek. Each two-hour outing launched from Base Camp and offered an easy way into the waterways that sit at the center of Bay Creek’s setting.

The Nature Talk Campfire met twice, on June 2 and again on June 16, gathering residents around the fire at Base Camp for conversation about the natural, cultural, and historical corners of Bay Creek and the Eastern Shore, with a ghost story never far off.

On June 9, a Ranger-guided Plant ID Hike walked a small group through the botanical variety of the Nature Preserve. The slow-paced excursion covered the names and uses of the trees, flowers, vines, ferns, and forbs growing along the trail, an hour and a half spent looking closely at what usually passes underfoot.

The Owl Prowl followed the next evening. On June 10, Ranger Stan led participants a mile into the preserve after dark in search of signs of owls, offering a look at the nocturnal side of Bay Creek and at the uncommon habitat the preserve provides for these reclusive birds.

On June 26, Ranger Stan hosted Netting on the Beach, a family-friendly hour of shoreline exploration using a variety of netting techniques. Participants collected and examined specimens from the Chesapeake Bay, and most of them got wet doing it.

The Bicycle Mimosa Flight rolled out on June 27, a guided ride through the Nature Preserve with stops at four scenic tasting locations along the way. Cyclists checked in at the Coach House Tavern, sampled at each pitstop, and finished back where they started with a commemorative Bay Creek cup.

Wellness, Creativity, and Learning

The Life Center gained two additions in June. The new outdoor fitness area was completed and opened for member use mid-month, putting a full outdoor gym alongside the existing facilities. Sunshades went up over the pickleball courts at the same time, adding cover during play.

The June Fitness Challenge ran the length of the month, with members logging their gym visits on the mirror by the towel bin and the highest count taking home a Bay Creek hat of choice.

Paint & Sip returned on June 25, with an afternoon of wine, light bites, and step-by-step painting guidance from Janet Hanofee. Experienced painters and first-timers worked side by side, each leaving with a finished canvas.

On the learning side, a Toastmasters Lunch & Learn came to Chesapeake Hall on June 17. Members of the organization walked attendees through the fundamentals of public speaking and leadership over the meal, mixing interactive exercises with practical tips that participants could put to use straight away.

Golf Events and Club Play

Golf filled the busiest weeks of June’s calendar, from clinics and fitting days to tournament play and the start of an inter-club rivalry.

Women’s Golf Week wrapped up in the month’s first days, a full week built around growing the women’s game. It began with the Ladies League Fun Tournament and Wear Pink Day, a nine-hole scramble played in bright colors, and went on to a Sip & Shop in the Golf Shop, a complimentary Ladies Clinic with the golf professional staff, and a Ladies Putting Clinic and Contest. The week also collected written submissions for a “Why I Play Golf” promotion, in which members described how they found the game and what keeps them coming back. The same handful of things came up again and again: friendship, family, time outdoors, and the welcoming culture that has grown up around ladies golf at Bay Creek.

The Ladies League held its Tuesday morning rhythm through the rest of the month, with Play Days on June 2 and June 30, a Clinic and Play Day on June 9, a Guest Day on June 16 that gave members the chance to introduce a friend to the course, and a four-person net scramble on June 23.

Instruction and equipment had their turn as well. The Iron Play Member Golf Clinic on June 5 put members on the driving range for an hour of swing mechanics and short game drills. Two fitting events followed toward the end of June, with a Titleist Fitting Day on June 19 and the Callaway Performance Fit Experience out on the practice range on June 27, both giving players one-on-one time with a fitting specialist.

Tournament play stayed steady. The One-Day Member-Guest Scramble on June 7 paired golf members with a guest for a shotgun-start morning followed by a buffet lunch. Cheeseburgers in Paradise arrived on June 14, a nine-hole, four-person scramble on the Nicklaus Front Nine with a different rule governing play on every hole. The Sunday Member Mixer Scramble came around every week, shuffling members into new foursomes, and the 2026 Nicklaus Cup, whose first round was played at the end of May, carried on toward its second.

Social Gatherings and Community Events

The Sunset Jam played Bay Creek Beach every Thursday in June. Members arrived with chairs, blankets, food from the Coach House, and in a few cases their own instruments, settling in for live music from the Sunset Jam Band as the sun went down over the water.

The Coach House Tavern kept its weekly pattern all June, with Martini Night on Wednesdays and Prime Rib Night on Thursdays. Trivia Night on June 2, hosted by Eric Hack, drew teams out for prizes and friendly competition, and a special Father’s Day menu was served all day on June 21.

Yappy Hour on June 5 turned the tavern patio over to the dogs for an afternoon, with a pet agility course, toys, and doggie bags to go.

Friday Night Under the Oak on June 12, the gathering formerly known as Tree of Life, brought residents beneath Bay Creek’s iconic oak tree for live music from Heather and Nathan Travis and light bites prepared by Chef Linda.

Dinner & a Movie returned on June 26 with a screening of The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, paired with a themed buffet dinner and popcorn.

Independence Day Weekend at Bay Creek

June gave way to the holiday, and the community treated the two as a single stretch. The weekend held extra weight this year on both counts, marking 250 years of the United States and 25 years of Bay Creek Resort. The flagpole, restored to like-new condition earlier in the season, flew over all of it.

Thursday, July 2 started the weekend with a patriotic Yappy Hour on the tavern’s back patio, dogs dressed in holiday best for an afternoon of paws and puppy fun.

Friday, July 3 belonged to the Annual Golf Cart Parade, a Bay Creek tradition. Decorated carts wound through the community, around the beach circle, through the clubhouse parking lot, down to the turnaround near the guard gate, and back to the Life Center, cheered on by neighbors from the sidelines the whole way. A Best Decorated Cart award followed, with photographs of every entry posted to Bay Creek’s Facebook page. After dark, a glow-in-the-dark evening at the clubhouse kept the celebration going.

The Golf Club held an 8:30 AM shotgun start on both July 3 and July 4, using the Palmer Front and Palmer Back nines to give as many members as possible time on the course across one of the busiest golf weekends of the year, with the Nicklaus Nine open to those playing nine holes.

Saturday, July 4 kept the Life Center busy from morning until night, with complimentary crafts, pool games, lawn games including cornhole, music all day, and a concession table serving handheld food. Both the crafts and the pool games were on offer across all three days of the weekend. The day ended at Base Camp with a Nature Talk Campfire under the stars.

Heading Deeper Into Summer

Across paddles and campfires, a week built around the women’s game, an inaugural win over Bayville, and a golf cart parade at the end of it, June at Bay Creek reflected the variety that defines life here at the height of summer. Familiar weekly programming sat alongside one-time events, new amenities opened, and construction advanced on projects that will shape the seasons ahead.

With the Fourth of July behind it and the Nicklaus Cup still running toward its November final, June’s momentum takes the community straight into the rest of the summer, and into a year in which Bay Creek marks its first quarter century.
